Transportation

For 10 years, PIAD had two trucks that were essential for transporting materials and agricultural products to small farmers in rural Cochabamba in order to carry out its projects in the field. Unfortunately, at the beginning of this year, the trucks became too costly to maintain and PIAD was forced to sell them. PIAD made $6,000 USD from the sale of the vehicles ($3,000 each). With this budget, PIAD is looking to buy another vehicle for its weekly visits to the country. Being that transportation is a fundamental component to this organization, the acquisition of a vehicle is of the utmost importance. Although PIAD does not have a substantial budget, they still require an automobile that will continue to work for many years to come. Also, because the vehicle will be involved in agricultural work, and will be subjugated to difficult terrain, this creates a demand for a certain type of vehicle. Below it is a list of the vehicle requirements.

  • Pickup truck. If a pickup is not possible, a van with ample cargo space
  • 1999 or newer
  • Engine size 1300 to 2400
  • Traction: 4x4 or 4x2
  • Mid-cab, or if it is not possible, single cab
  • In good condition but dents are acceptable
  • Gasoline or natural gas fuel

In Bolivia it is difficult to find a good quality vehicle with a reliable history report. For this reason, it may be necessary to look across boarders to search a larger inventory. It is possible to find vehicles in Bolivia that have been imported from the United States, Japan, Europe, and other countries, however, the average price of a pickup in Cochabamba, with the characteristics previously mentioned, is approximately $8,300 USD. Therefore, PIAD lacks at least $2,300 USD to buy a vehicle.

Also, if there is an organization or individual that wishes to donate a vehicle to this worthy cause, PIAD can use their budget to pay the costs of importing the vehicle.

Throughout the years many volunteers have donated his or her time and skills to help achieve PIADīs goals. Since xxxx these volunteers have been involved in sustainable development projects such as creating potable water systems for villages to performing financial analysis of the organization.
